Philanthropist Rising Initiative

Inspiring and equipping college students with resources to address challenges through collective philanthropy.

The Philanthropist Rising Initiative (formerly known as the HBCU/Donors of Color Initiative) was launched in Spring 2016, and leverages current CIN giving circle members to serve as presenters, mentors, and personal examples of creative philanthropy for students.

Initially designed for students of color at institutions of higher learning, the Initiative has evolved to also engage college-aged youth from the wider community who are not enrolled in college. Through classroom sessions, mentoring, and convenings, the program creates a pipeline to the next generation of philanthropists.

Objectives

  • Inspire and Activate a new generation of philanthropic donors and changemakers by showcasing diverse pathways and approaches to giving.
  • Amplify the Voices and Leadership of young people in shaping the future of philanthropy and addressing issues important to their communities.
  • Equip Participants with leadership skills, resources, and networks to design and lead impactful collective giving efforts.
  • Foster the Development and Growth of new and existing giving circles led by young adults.
  • Build Connections Across Sectors by facilitating relationships among students, community-based youth, established philanthropists, and institutional partners
  • Establish a Lasting Presence and partnerships on college campuses and in community spaces.
